by RH (St Andrews) on 23 October 2014Each meeting with Stevie Brown is consistently less pleasant than the one that preceded it. He is rude, unpleasant, and simply condescending. His responses to any complaints are generally dismissive and curt, and any perceived slight to ‘his flat’ is usually greeted with an aggressive and manic slew of insults. The furniture is shoddy, the infrastructure is faulty, and the service is nonexistent. I’m often surprised by the extent of Stephen Brown’s inability to understand the fundamental simplicities of the business-consumer relationship. I can no longer count the times where Stephen Brown has alluded to his ‘generosity’ with regards to our dealings, when the fact of the matter is that his tenants pay ludicrously inflated prices for the privilege of living at a certifiably third-world Eve Brown property. Rent changes year-to-year with little explanation, and when asked, he will usually spew some inane rhetoric about changes in the market price that dictate monthly rent charges. The hypocrisy of a monopolist citing ‘market prices’ is hopefully not lost on you. In summation, I’d like to say that I no longer think of Stephen Brown as a landlord; he is a gangster and an overlord. The only positive thing I can think to say of Eve Brown is that his underlings (the women of EBP) have been very kind in my dealings with them. (1/5)
by Nicholas (winchester) on 18 February 2014Avoid. Mr Brown believes it is right to advertise and let properties that breach regulations and then is aggressively rude if you complain. His staff do their best and are very polite but their opinions are readily dismissed by Mr Brown. They might claim to be big but look elsewhere if you want trustworthy service. (1/5)

The flat we stayed in had a stove that shorted out the entire circuit board (faulty wiring), no insulation, and Eve Brown thought it was acceptable to store wrapped, unusable appliances in our kitchen for two months. When complained to, Mr. Brown was at first unreachable and then abusive, speaking to me in a degrading and vile manner over the phone. Not a way to treat a client, Mr. Brown-- will warn everyone I know off you! (1/5)

Stephen Brown has overseen two HMO applications and sorted various emergencies very effectively indeed. His pricing has always been entirely fair. Moreover, the staff have been particularly friendly and even sent a bouquet to my wife's funeral. By contrast, we had a golf let for the Open with Pagan and Osborne and that was an atrocious experience! (5/5)
by Chris (St Andrews) on 12 May 2011Never ever rent from this company. Greedy, inconsiderate, poor upkeep. It's all just pathetic. You can even see Mr. Brown trying to boost his ratings below. Quite sleazy. If you want to avoid anything in St Andrews, avoid them. That is, unless you like when strange men home into your house at 630 in the morning unannounced and suddenly drop off 7 mattresses in your living room, which is creepy on several levels. Plus we needed a working gas system which didn't leak CO2. (1/5)

But I just found out first-hand why Eve Brown and it's owner Steve Brown have such a bad reputation, never in all my life have I came across such a rude and exploiting individual, he was sincerely only interested in squeezing as much money out of me as possible and never returned my deposit! Had to keep calling and calling them, being told totally contradictory information. Eventually never got the place after being told I would be able to. Total waste of time and effort. In the long run however I looks like I dodged a bullet. (2/5)

They still have my deposit which should have been returned in August. Yes, Stephen Brown is Eve Brown's owner! It also says please don't use reviews to promote your own business or to discredit your competition, which I guess is no surprise that he has done! Awful people, could go into more detail but waste of breath! (1/5)

The staff are friendly and very considerate and nothing seemed too much bother unlike some of the other letting agents in town. Lease documents and inventory all first class written in simple English and explained thoroughly before I signed my lease. At the end a final inventory reconciliation and full deposit speedily returned. What more can I say. (4/5)
by R W Scott (Fife) on 11 February 2009I am a Landlord who used Eve Brown for the factoring of my flat in Fife. As its part of a residence association I had no option but to use the said company. The last 14 years have seen nothing but problems in respect of this company, they never ever carry out their obligations and never ever give them your bank details as I have found out to my cost. The staff are rude and aggressive - they just want you off the phone as quickly as they can, as they already have your money. My advice to other landlords is steer clear of this company and use another letting agent. (1/5)

When their house viewing policy means hopeful students turn up unannounced on your doorstep - perhaps 11 groups in an afternoon - in the middle of the exam period then you know they just don't give a ****. I'm a student tenant who'll try his best to never use them again, but as they hold a large percentage of properties in town, I may not have a chance - so if you're a landlord please think if it was your son/daugter would you want their revision time ruined by a lazy agent - you could always take your business to one who cares.
